Even though the Rocky Ford Meloneers have not done well against the Rye Thunderbolts recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Rocky Ford walked away with a 30-23 win over Rye. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Rocky Ford also won the last time the pair played back in February.
Among those leading the charge was Faith Wirth, who scored 8 points along with 15 rebounds and 3 blocks. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Rocky Ford's points.
Despite the loss, Rye saw an underclassman step up: Abrianna Chianelli scored 5 points along with 14 rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Rocky Ford and bumps their season record up to 3-1. As for Rye, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Rocky Ford will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Crowley County at 4:00 p.m. Rye will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Florence at 5:30 p.m. on December 12th.
