The Laurel Spartans will take on the Jefferson-Morgan Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Laurel will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
If Jefferson-Morgan heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Laurel took over last week. The Spartans walked away with a 14-7 win over Neshannock on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Spartans' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while the Lancers are ranked 329th).
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Kolton Carlson and Nathan Hill. Carlson gained 154 total yards and a touchdown while Hill rushed for 83 yards and one TD. Carlson also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack and making six total tackles.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Laurel proved: they limited Neshannock to a paltry 2.6 yards per carry. The team can thank Jack Miles for the heroic effort on defense: he. Laurel's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.3.

Laurel's defense also made the game a nightmare for Jino Mozzocio, racking up seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Tyler Fuchs and Alex Medved, who racked up four sacks between them. The game marked Fuchs' first with multiple sacks this season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Jefferson-Morgan and California meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Rockets came up short against the Trojans, falling 36-14. The contest was a close 14-12 at the break, but unfortunately for the Rockets it sure didn't stay that way.
Although Jefferson-Morgan took the loss, they still got scores from John Woodward and Deakyn Dehoet.
Laurel's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Jefferson-Morgan, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Laurel has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 195 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Jefferson-Morgan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 199.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
