1A Tri-Peaks recap September 10, 2013
Salida was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to second in 1A Tri-Peaks. The Spartans defeated Lake County 34-12 earlier in the week.
Ellicott took down Las Animas 52-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Casey Nordyke was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 185 yards as Custer County lost to Limon. Conner Rowley also contributed to the rushing game with 140 yards on the ground.
Nathan Lowe put up the best numbers through the air as Salida topped the Panthers. He finished with 7 completions for 96 yards and 4 touchdowns. Lowe's favorite target this week was Tony Gentile, who caught 2 passes for 43 yards.
Andy McFarland was a key player and the best on defense this week as Buena Vista beat Hotchkiss. The 5-foot-8 senior.
Keegan Wentz was a passing and rushing force as the Demons beat the Bulldogs. He completed 6 passes for 71 yards and also ran for 174 yards. Wentz's favorite target this week was McFarland, who caught 3 passes for 44 yards.
He went 7-13 with 1 interceptions.
Stockton was the best wideout in the league this week as the Lions fell to the Badgers. Stockton tallied 7 receptions for 151 yards. Luke Harrison helped Colorado Springs Christian's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 89 yards.
A big matchup in 1A Tri-Peaks this week will be when Rye takes on Eric Handke's team. The Thunderbolts are currently in third, while the Spartans are in second.
The league will see a high scoring game when the Bobcats and Buena Vista face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Custer County comes in having scored 58 this season, while Matt Flavin's team has scored 59. Troy Bomgardner's team scored 52 points last week as it topped Del Norte.
The Demons and Hotchkiss played the most contested game in the league this week, with the Demons eventually emerging with a 20-14 victory. Wentz in the win.
