Adams City and Aurora Central are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Adams City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Adams City lost 14-4 to Gateway on Saturday.
Adams City saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marcos LaCrue, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that LaCrue has brought in this season.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Wednesday Aurora Central sidestepped Kennedy for a 10-8 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.
Toby Sanchez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Aurora Central's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 4-7 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Kalai Bentosino was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Kirby Colbert-Olsen was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Aurora Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Adams City's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-5. As for Aurora Central, their record now sits at 6-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Adams City has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Aurora Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Adams City took their win against Aurora Central in their previous matchup on April 10th by a conclusive 14-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
