Basketball Game Preview: Wildwood Wildcats vs. The Villages Charter Buffalo

Wildwood is 10-0 against The Villages Charter since December of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Wildwood Wildcats will welcome The Villages Charter Buffalo at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are still undefeated after five-games, but that won't be the case come Thursday.

Wildwood will head into Friday's game hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 44) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Leesburg, sneaking past 52-50. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 80th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wildwood found their leader in freshman Zoey Brown, who posted 16 points along with seven boards and six assists. Brown is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 27 games she's played dating back to last season. Trinidy Harris was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, The Villages Charter earned a 52-42 win over Buchholz on Tuesday. The 52-point effort marked the Buffalo's lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Wildwood pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.1 points per game. As for The Villages Charter, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.

Everything went Wildwood's way against The Villages Charter when the teams last played back in January of 2021, as Wildwood made off with a 71-50 victory. Will Wildwood repeat their success, or does The Villages Charter have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
