Given Smithfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Tigers are ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tabb lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Landon Powell, who scored 12 points along with two steals. Powell has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Tim Schrade was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Smithfield's victory bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Tabb, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smithfield will take on the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. New Kent will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. As for Tabb, they will head out on the road to challenge the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. York has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 235 points over their last four contests.
