Girard and Hubbard are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2015, but not for long. The Girard Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Hubbard Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Girard pushed their score all the way to 35 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Poland Seminary by a score of 38-35. Girard has struggled against Poland Seminary recently, as Friday's matchup was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still came through with several impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Stephen Sims, who punched in a touchdown on the ground, and also picked up 158 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Domenico Simone also helped out as he racked up 133 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Hubbard lost to Lakeview on the road by a decisive 28-14 margin on Friday.
Hubbard's defeat came about despite a quality game from Alex Hackwelder, who threw for 237 yards and a touchdown, and also rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns.
Girard's defeat on Friday also dropped their record down to 4-4. Hubbard has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday' game: Girard has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 327 passing yards per game. It's a different story for Hubbard, though, as they've been averaging only 115.9 per game. How will Hubbard fare against such a dominant passing game?
Girard was able to grind out a solid win over Hubbard in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, winning 30-20. The rematch might be a little tougher for Girard since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
