The Palmview Lobos will challenge the Nixon Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Palmview knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Nixon likes a good challenge.
Nixon's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Palmview hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Lobos' pitcher stepped up to hand Juarez-Lincoln a 21-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Lobos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by eight runs or more this season.
Abigail Cantu was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Jenessa Cortinas and Marina Rodriguez did most of the damage at the plate: Cortinas went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs, while Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave Cortinas a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Yailyn Trevino, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Palmview hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in ten consecutive matchups.
Roma hit Nixon with a four-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs lost 13-3 to the Gladiators. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Mustangs have suffered against the Gladiators since February 13, 2018.
Nixon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ruby Ibarra, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Palmview pushed their record up to 16-2-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.6 runs over those games. As for Nixon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-10.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Palmview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .456. However, it's not like Nixon struggles in that department as they've averaged .382. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Palmview got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in February against Nixon by a conclusive 16-1 score. Will the Lobos repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
