Hedgesville and Frankfort are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Eagles will take on the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Hedgesville came up short against Clear Spring on Monday, falling 16-10. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mason McGill stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. Chris Williams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Frankfort came tearing into Monday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Rams 12-1. Considering the Falcons have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Jaxon Hare spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lanson Orndorff was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Rhett Sensabaugh also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Frankfort was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.
Hedgesville's defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Frankfort, their record is now 15-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Hedgesville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Frankfort struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Hedgesville suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Frankfort in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
