Gretna and William Campbell are an even 4-4 against one another since October of 2014, but not for long. The Gretna Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the William Campbell Generals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gretna is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
Gretna stacked a fourth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They claimed a resounding 44-7 victory over Chatham at home. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 20-0.
Gretna's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Melvin Wooden, who threw for 287 yards and five touchdowns while completing 77.3% of his passes. Amare Gunn was another key contributor, picking up 171 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, William Campbell narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Dan River 24-22. The win was just what William Campbell needed coming off of a 47-17 loss in their prior match.
Their wins bumped Gretna to 7-2 and William Campbell to 4-5.
Gretna didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against William Campbell when the teams last played back in September of 2022, but they still walked away with a 32-28 win. Will Gretna repeat their success, or does William Campbell have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
