The Monson Mustangs will face off against the Pioneer Valley Regional Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Monson earned a 7-4 victory over Granby. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Meanwhile, Pioneer Valley Regional put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Turners Falls get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.
Alex McClelland and Jackson Glazier made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, McClelland didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Glazier pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At bat, McClelland got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Glazier went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI Glazier has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Pioneer Valley Regional got a massive performance out of Evan Tsipenyuk, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Tsipenyuk has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ethan Mauthe, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Pioneer Valley Regional hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Turners Falls struck out ten times.
Pioneer Valley Regional's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Monson, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
Monson might still be hurting after the 16-5 loss they got from Pioneer Valley Regional in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
