Appomattox County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They skirted past Glenvar 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Raiders have posted since March 17th.
The team relied heavily on Bailey Hamilton, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Bryant, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Chatham owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over Patrick County. The victory was nothing new for the Cavaliers as they're now sitting on four straight.
Not much got past Corra Liggon, who gave up just four hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Patrick County off the board. Liggon has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jasmine Smoot was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Chatham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.2.
Appomattox County's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Chatham, their record is now 12-10.
Appomattox County took their win against Chatham in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 9-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
