The Madison-Grant Argylls will face off against the Eastbrook Panthers at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Madison-Grant is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Madison-Grant will head out to face Eastbrook after giving up their first home loss of the season on Thursday. The Argylls came up short against Oak Hill, falling 15-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Argylls have suffered against the Golden Eagles since May 11, 2017.
Andy Stanley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Xavier Yeagy, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Eastbrook entered their tilt with Mississinewa on Friday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Indians. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Austin Mikel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jacob McDermit, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Malakai Luthy, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.
Eastbrook pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Madison-Grant, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Madison-Grant has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .455. However, it's not like Eastbrook struggles in that department as they've averaged .475. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Madison-Grant might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Eastbrook in their previous meeting last Thursday. Can the Argylls avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
