Softball Recap: Mercersburg Academy Wins Going Away Against St. John's Catholic Prep

Mercersburg Academy got themselves on the board against St. John's Catholic Prep on Tuesday, but St. John's Catholic Prep never followed suit. They blew past the Vikings 17-0. The Storm might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by eight runs or more this season.

Mercersburg Academy let Kamden Jenkins and Avallina Orfield run wild. Jenkins got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three RBI, while Orfield scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Orfield has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Stella Schwartz, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Mercersburg Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .675. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Mercersburg Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for St. John's Catholic Prep, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mercersburg Academy will face off against Hun at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for St. John's Catholic Prep, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against St. Timothy's at 3:15 p.m.
