The Brandon Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Ocean Springs Greyhounds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brandon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Brandon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Everything went their way against St. Martin as they made off with an 11-1 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Grady Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Tre Adcox was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Graydon Walker was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Brandon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .565. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Ocean Springs came out on top against Northwest Rankin on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Greyhounds sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Cougars. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Ocean Springs also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Cannon Hensarling gave up three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. Hensarling has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, AJ Arguello and Justin San Miguel did most of the damage at the plate: Arguello went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI, while San Miguel went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Arguello has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Rossi, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Ocean Springs' win was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-6-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Brandon, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 19-12 record this season.
Brandon was able to grind out a solid win over Ocean Springs in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 6-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
