The Mackay Miners will head out on the road to challenge the North Gem Cowboys at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Mackay focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Wednesday.
Last Wednesday, Mackay beat Alturas Prep 53-44. The win was just what Mackay needed coming off of a 75-53 loss in their prior matchup.
Mackay can attribute much of their success to Ruger Nicholls, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds, and Kaizer Summers, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 21 rebounds. Summers is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least ten every time he's taken the court this season.
Meanwhile, North Gem can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent contest on Tuesday. They blew past Grace Lutheran 53-31. With North Gem ahead 29-9 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
The win got Mackay back to even at 10-10. As for North Gem, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
Mackay didn't have too much breathing room in their match against North Gem in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 61-55 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mackay since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
