4A Region 1 recap November 13, 2013
UMS-Wright Prep took down Handley 31-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Gunner Roach threw for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 13 yards in the win.
Andalusia led 4A Region 1 in scoring this week by notching 33 points on Andalusia.
The Bulldogs' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Troy Dixon contributed 177 yards. Christian Pearsall helped UMS-Wright Prep's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 23 yards.
Dixon provided a threat through the air and on the ground as UMS-Wright Prep defeated the Tigers. Dixon's key target this week was Jaylon Jones, who caught 7 passes for 77 yards.
Dixon was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 177 yards on 26 carries as Terry Curtis' team topped Handley. Teammate Roach added to the ground attack by rushing for 13 yards.
UMS-Wright Prep's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Bulldogs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Roach has thrown for 1,798 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Jones has 54 catches for 946 yards.
Michael McCalman has rushed for 984 yards on 141 carries so far this year.
The Bulldogs' Jones is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only 54 receiving yards against Beauregard to hit that benchmark. So far this year, he has garnered 54 catches for 946 yards.
