The Davie War Eagles won the last time they faced the Parkland Mustangs, and things went their way on Friday too. Davie enjoyed a cozy 59-45 victory over Parkland. Given Davie's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Parkland is ranked 213th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Davie to victory were Jackson Powers and Ethan Driver. Powers almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds, while Driver scored 12 points along with five steals. Driver is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Coleman Lawhon, who scored five points along with six assists and two steals.
Parkland's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JoShaun Williamson, who scored seven points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Jackson, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Davie's victory bumped their record up to 19-3. As for Parkland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-12.
Davie will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Glenn at 7:30 p.m. Glenn is coming into the match with five straight losses on the road, meaning Davie will have to defend against a team hungry for a win. As for Parkland, they will take on Mount Tabor at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mount Tabor knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Parkland likes a good challenge.
