Watertown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Dakota's top teams: Lincoln, who was ranked seventh at the time (Watertown was ranked 12th). The Arrows came up short against the Patriots on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The Arrows' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
The final score came out to 25-19, 25-14, 25-21.
Meanwhile, Mitchell had already won five in a row and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Cavaliers.
Mitchell was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 24-26, 19-25, 27-25, 15-8.
Watertown better focus on containing Cassidy Korzan and Londyn Hajek as the pair were huge in Mitchell's win. Korzan had nine digs and two aces, while Hajek had 14 digs and one assist. Those 14 digs gave Hajek a new career-high.
Mitchell was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in nine consecutive matchups.
Watertown's loss dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Mitchell, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
