The Springstead Eagles won the last time they faced the Crystal River Pirates, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Springstead breezed by Crystal River at home to the tune of 75-23. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Springstead has managed all season.
Austin Nicholson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds. The contest was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Cordero, who scored 14 points.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zachary Hamilton, who scored six points along with six assists. Another player making a difference was Jaccob Yost, who scored nine points.
Springstead has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. As for Crystal River, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 5-8.
Springstead has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Weeki Wachee at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. Weeki Wachee will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 566th, while Springstead is ranked 259th). Crystal River won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Tavares at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th. Tavares is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
