Southside hasn't had much luck against McCollum recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Southside will head out to face off against McCollum at 7:00 p.m. Southside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Southside didn't have quite enough to beat Southwest Legacy and fell 4-3. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Southside saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trey Gonzalez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. Another was Joseth Aguirre, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McCollum). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over Jay on Friday. That's two games straight that the Cowboys have won by exactly two runs.
The team relied heavily on Aiden Rodriguez, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Vega, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
The win made it two in a row for McCollum and bumps their season record up to 6-9. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Southside, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Southside has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. However, it's not like McCollum struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Southside skirted past McCollum 10-8 in their previous meeting back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southside since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
