If the Dolores Bears were riding high off their 60-38 takedown of the Creede Miners back in December of 2023, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Dolores fell 61-48 to Sargent on Tuesday. Dolores has struggled against Sargent recently, as their match on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Dolores saw an underclassman step up: Koby McClellan scored 16 points.
Sargent's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hayden Lester, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Lester set a new season high mark in blocks with two. Another player making a difference was Kade Temple, who scored 12 points.
Dolores now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Sargent, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
Dolores will be playing in front of their home fans against Telluride at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sargent, they will head out on the road to face off against Creede at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Creede will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 334th, while Sargent is ranked 75th).
