The Cuthbertson Cavaliers pushed their score all the way to 55 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 65-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Porter Ridge. While losing is never fun, Cuthbertson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Porter Ridge is ranked 34th).
Several Cavaliers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christian Mundy, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mundy has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Amayah Rogers, who scored 13 points.
Cuthbertson struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Porter Ridge pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.
Porter Ridge found their leader in underclassman Ashanti Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Anna Scaldara was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Cuthbertson's loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Porter Ridge, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cuthbertson will take on Weddington at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cuthbertson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday. As for Porter Ridge, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Sun Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
