Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Ida Baker walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Gateway Eagles on Thursday as they made off with a 7-0 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won nine matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Michel Valdes made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Valdes was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.
Valdes wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Robbie Hensley, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
The win got Ida Baker back to even at 13-13. As for Gateway, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-8.
As of now, neither Ida Baker nor the Eagles have any future games scheduled.
