Newfound Regional is 0-2 against Somersworth since October of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Newfound Regional Bears will look to defend their home field against the Somersworth Toppers at 2:00 p.m. Newfound Regional comes in on a streak of failing to score more than six points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Newfound Regional fell victim to Raymond's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 49-0 defeat at the hands of the Rams.
Meanwhile, Somersworth blew past Bishop Brady, posting a 41-6 win at home. The result was nothing new for Somersworth, who have now won four matchups by 35 points or more so far this season.
Tayshawn Sheppard continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 222 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Sheppard's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Lukas Kelly, who rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Newfound Regional's loss was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 2.8 points per game. Somersworth has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in four of their first five contests, giving them a 4-1 record.
Newfound Regional took a serious blow against Somersworth when the teams last played back in September of 2022, falling 47-0. Thankfully for Newfound Regional, Calvin Lambert (who rushed for 71 yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
