The Clinton Prairie Gophers will square off against the Eastern Comets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Clinton Prairie had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt Fountain Central on Monday. The Gophers blew past the Mustangs 20-3. The result was nothing new for the Gophers, who have now won eight matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Maddy Wessell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Wessell was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Keera Grizzle was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Harrison Livengood was another key player, going 1-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Clinton Prairie hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 7-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Eastern sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-11 victory over Marion on Saturday. The Comets haven't had any issues with the Giants recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Like Clinton Prairie, Eastern also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Roberson. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Roberson has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emillia Andrews, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Jenna Oman, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Eastern's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Clinton Prairie, their win bumped their record up to 11-8.
Eastern's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Clinton Prairie has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Eastern, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given Clinton Prairie's sizable advantage in that area, the Comets will need to find a way to close that gap.
Clinton Prairie came out on top in a nail-biter against Eastern when the teams last played back in May of 2025, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Gophers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Comets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
