The Farmington Scorpions can now show off 12 landslide victories after their most recent contest on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 56-30 margin over Piedra Vista. Given Farmington's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while Piedra Vista is ranked 30th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Farmington's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kapiolani Anitielu, who scored 15 points along with two steals and two blocks. Anitielu hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Chenoa Parrish, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and five assists.
When it comes to explaining why Piedra Vista lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tyra Holyan. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with four steals.
Farmington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-2 record this season. As for Piedra Vista, they now have a losing record at 10-11.
Farmington will be playing in front of their home fans against Sandia at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Farmington is on a eight-game streak of home wins, Sandia a eight-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Piedra Vista, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Eldorado at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Eldorado has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
