The Discovery Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the Liberty Chargers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Discovery's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
In what's become a running theme this season, Discovery gave their fans yet another huge win on Saturday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 87-60 victory over Haines City. Given Discovery's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Haines City is ranked 551st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Darius Livingston, who scored 21 points along with seven assists and five steals. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Willie Wilson, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Liberty pushed their score all the way to 63 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of New Dimensions by a score of 66-63. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Monday (56), Liberty still had to take the loss.
Discovery pushed their record up to 12-3 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.4 points per game. As for Liberty, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Discovery against Liberty when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 93-61 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Discovery since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
