The Ventura Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Dos Pueblos Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Friday, Ventura lost to Oxnard at home by a decisive 65-50 margin. Ventura has not had much luck with Oxnard recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Travis Valenzuela, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Finn Fancher, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Dos Pueblos suffered their biggest loss since November 25, 2023 on Wednesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 71-48 walloping at the hands of Oxnard. While losing is never fun, Dos Pueblos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 538th, while Oxnard is ranked 139th).
Ventura has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Dos Pueblos, their defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 8-9.
Ventura was able to grind out a solid win over Dos Pueblos when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 51-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ventura since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
