The Baldwin Indians will be taking part in a tournament against the Atlantic Coast Stingrays at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Baldwin will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Baldwin's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Sandalwood by a score of 5-0.
The result came thanks to Lilly Hubbard's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jazmine Ramos-Merced, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Kk Fry was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Baldwin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sandalwood only posted a batting average of .045.
Meanwhile, Atlantic Coast got the win against Paxon School For Advanced Studies on Wednesday by a conclusive 13-6. The result was nothing new for the Stingrays, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Morgan Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Brown was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Atlantic Coast let Stella Lynton and Josleen Mendoza run wild. Lynton went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Mendoza went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Cano, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Atlantic Coast's win bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Baldwin, their victory bumped their record up to 16-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Baldwin hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Atlantic Coast struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Baldwin skirted past Atlantic Coast 7-6 in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Stingrays have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
