North Hagerstown (Hagerstown, Md.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 25 in Maryland, but was stunned by
Seneca Valley (Germantown, Md.), 12-7. Seneca Valley was ranked at No. 26 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Maryland coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Kellen Hoerauf-staton in the second quarter, the Screamin' Eagles led 6-0 at the half.
Seneca Valley was ahead by as much as 12 before the Hubs pulled closer.
Tre Anderson made a difference for North Hagerstown. The senior caught one touchdown. He has now scored 13 touchdowns on the season.
SV's most effective player was Hoerauf-staton. The senior wide receiver ran for one touchdown.
NH's lone touchdown came on a 78-yard pass from
Gabe Fridgen to Anderson in the fourth quarter.
The Germantown school went into the matchup giving up only 14.3 points per game. The seven points that the Hagerstown school ended with were well below its average of 39.4 coming into the game.
The defeat comes as a step back for North Hagerstown, which notched a 14-12 victory over South Hagerstown in its previous outing.
The Screamin' Eagles (10-1) will play a Montgomery County 3A game against Damascus next week. The Hornets enter the tilt sporting a 10-0 record for the season.
