It was a good run, but the Apollo Hawks unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of Sunrise Mountain by a score of 59-56. Apollo has struggled against Sunrise Mountain recently, as their match on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Apollo saw an underclassman step up: Elijah White scored 33 points along with 5 rebounds. White has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Christian Acevedo was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sunrise Mountain to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jason Higgins, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Balian, who scored 11 points along with 5 rebounds.
Apollo's loss dropped their record down to 3-1. As for Sunrise Mountain, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Apollo won't have much time to rest: their next game is against South Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on December 7th. South Mountain will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 264th, while Apollo is ranked 84th). As for Sunrise Mountain, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
