Parkersburg and Hurricane are an even 3-3 against one another since September of 2016, but not for long. The Parkersburg Big Reds will head out on the road to face off against the Hurricane Redskins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Parkersburg is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Parkersburg faced Musselman in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Parkersburg breezed by Musselman on the road to the tune of 41-10. Considering Parkersburg has won five matches by more than 30 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Parkersburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anthony Ice led the charge by picking up 65 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Andrew Stalnaker also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Musselman to a paltry 111 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Parkersburg's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Jason Williams and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Hurricane unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They were the victim of a tough 28-6 loss at the hands of Huntington. Having soared to a lofty 89 points in the game before, Hurricane couldn't push the score so high this time.
Hurricane's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Noah Vellaithambi, who rushed for 206 yards, and Jacqai Long who rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown. Vellaithambi is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played.
Parkersburg's win lifted them to 6-4 while Hurricane's defeat dropped them down to 8-2.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as the pair haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Parkersburg commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.2 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Hurricane struggles in that department as they've been even better at 7.4 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup. Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other football content.
