Basketball Recap: Westover Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Westover entered their tilt with Jack Britt on Thursday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They snuck past the Jack Britt Buccaneers with a 50-44 victory. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while the Buccaneers are ranked 366th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Westover's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaeden Jones, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 17 points. The contest was Jones' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Shawn Clark was another key player, going 6 for 10 on his way to 12 points.

Westover's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Jack Britt, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westover won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Pine Forest at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Jack Britt, they will also get right back to it: they'll square off against E.E. Smith at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
