On Friday, Jarrell had to suffer through a rough 70-43 loss at the hands of Flour Bluff. While losing is never fun, Jarrell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 368th, while Flour Bluff is ranked 128th).
Despite the loss, Jarrell saw an underclassman step up: Aniya Taylor scored 21 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Taylor scored a full 48.8% of Jarrell's points, the 23rd time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Lamyre' Fitch, who scored seven points.
Jarrell has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-9 record this season. As for Flour Bluff, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Jarrell and John Paul II will round out the year against one another at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at. As for Flour Bluff, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Carroll at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Carroll is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
