Volleyball Recap: Waynedale Starts off Right with Win over Tuscarawas Central Catholic

Waynedale gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Tuscarawas Central Catholic Saints. That's more bragging rights for the Golden Bears, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Waynedale had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 25-16, 25-11.

Among those leading the charge was Mya Spitler, who had eight aces and three digs. Those eight aces gave her a new career-high.

Spitler wasn't the only good server: Waynedale was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 15 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tuscarawas Central Catholic only served four aces.

Coincidentally, Waynedale and Tuscarawas Central Catholic will both be playing Garaway the next time they take the court. The Saints will head out to face the Pirates at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Golden Bears will play them later in the day, at 12:00 p.m.
