Waynedale gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Tuscarawas Central Catholic Saints 2-1. The Golden Bears have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Saints, too.
Waynedale had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-16, 25-11.
Bella Parry paced Waynedale's offense, picking up nine kills. Parry got some help from Sydnee Beckler and her 28 assists. Mya Spitler controlled things from the service line, finishing with eight aces.
Coincidentally, Waynedale and Tuscarawas Central Catholic will both be playing Garaway the next time they take the court. The Saints will head out to face the Pirates at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Golden Bears will play them later in the day, at 12:00 p.m.
