Natalie Keith and Marissa Lee stepped up to the plate in a big way. Keith got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Lee scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. Those two stolen bases gave Lee a new career-high. Jessie Wendt also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Even though they lost, Northwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Foothill was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They walked away with an 8-5 win over Valencia.
Zamarippa Belle was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Makaela Martinez, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Foothill's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Northwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Everything went Northwood's way against Foothill when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as Northwood made off with a 10-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northwood since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
