The Evans Trojans suffered their biggest loss since December 7, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by Winter Park on the road and fell 55-24. While losing is never fun, Evans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 494th, while Winter Park is ranked 132nd).
Despite the loss, Evans had strong showings from Jay James, who scored four points along with five steals, and Carmen Roundtree, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Evans struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Winter Park racked up 16 assists.
Winter Park's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tyler Seay led the charge by scoring 11 points along with three steals. Calista Rand was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Evans has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Winter Park, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-3.
Evans' road trip will continue as they head out to face Edgewater at 10:30 a.m. on January 15th.
