The Mayfield Cubs will head out to face off against the Muir Mustangs at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
Mayfield's last matchup with Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Thursday. The Cubs lost 17-1 to the Cardinals. The Cubs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lexy Mason made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, Muir strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Eagle Rock with a sharp 12-2 win. Fans of the Mustangs have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Sidney Sims and Gigi Butler made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Sims pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Butler tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. At bat, Sims went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Butler got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Jaida Brown was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
Muir was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Muir's record now sits at 3-0. As for Mayfield, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Everything went Mayfield's way against Muir when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Mayfield made off with a 13-3 victory. Will the Cubs repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
