Avon and Midview are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2019, but not for long. The Avon Eagles will welcome the Midview Middies at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Avon has three straight wins, Midview has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Last Wednesday, it was close, but Avon sidestepped Berea-Midpark for a 45-42 victory.
Avon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Audrey Lammers, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 10 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alaina Pagan, who posted 13 points and three steals.
Meanwhile, Midview ended up a good deal behind North Ridgeville on Wednesday and lost 50-31. That's two games in a row now that the Middies have lost by exactly 19 points.
Avon will need focus on slowing down Jacinta Miller, one of several Midview players who made an impact when they last played. She put up nine points and seven rebounds. Miller continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hunter Crum, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Avon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. As for Midview, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Avon has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Midview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Avon strolled past Midview when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 55-40. Does Avon have another victory up their sleeve, or will Midview turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
