The Atherton Ravens will head out to challenge the Moore Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Atherton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Atherton after they put the first runs on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Clay. The Ravens have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jackson Lonnon was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, McCoy Morgan was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-4. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Caleb Johnson also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Moore strolled into their game last Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over Western.
Katel Dutan was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Dutan was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Diego Pupo, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Isaac Northern, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Moore pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average this season. As for Atherton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Everything went Atherton's way against Moore in their previous matchup back in April of 2018, as Atherton made off with an 11-2 win. Do the Ravens have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
