The Canterbury Crusaders suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were dealt a 72-28 loss at the hands of Lakeside Christian. While losing is never fun, Canterbury can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 659th, while Lakeside Christian is ranked 246th).
Several Crusaders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kayden Calhoun, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 39.3% of Canterbury's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Thomas, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Lakeside Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jalen Jackson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Jackson pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Nijaun Harris, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
Canterbury has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. As for Lakeside Christian, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Canterbury will head out on the road to square off against American Collegiate Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. American Collegiate Academy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games. As for Lakeside Christian, they will be playing at home against Admiral Farragut at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Admiral Farragut focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday.
