The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Northern Nash Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. SouthWest Edgecombe is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
Even though SouthWest Edgecombe has not done well against Farmville Central recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. SouthWest Edgecombe strolled past Farmville Central with points to spare, taking the game 55-37. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, as SouthWest Edgecombe did.
SouthWest Edgecombe can attribute much of their success to Moore Mackenzie, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds, and K'Deidra (KD) Collins, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The match was Collins' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Aaliyah Whitehead was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Northern Nash's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by D.H. Conley 61-21. While losing is never fun, Northern Nash can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 375th, while D.H. Conley is ranked 171st).
SouthWest Edgecombe's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Northern Nash, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
SouthWest Edgecombe was dealt a bruising 51-24 loss at the hands of Northern Nash in their previous matchup back in December of 2019. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point SouthWest Edgecombe was down 32-12.
