Chandler (Ariz.) trailed
Basha (Chandler, Ariz.) by 17 points at one time, but managed to come all the way back and secure a 41-31 victory on Saturday.
The Bears pulled ahead on a touchdown run by
Rajhan Meriwether, and subsequently went into halftime leading 17-0. The Wolves scored the winning points with a
Darell Garretson touchdown pass to
Elijah Sykes that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring 21 points in the third, Chandler still trailed by 3 points going into the fourth quarter. But 20 points in the fourth helped CHS pull out the victory.
The Wolves didn't take the lead for good until the the fourth quarter when Garretson thew a touchdown to Sykes.
Chandler's most effective player was
Branden Jenkins. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns and caught one touchdown. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.
Basha's
Zach Werlinger was the standout player for his team. The junior quarterback threw two touchdowns.
CHS got revenge for last year's 58-41 loss to BHS with the victory.
The loss comes after Basha defeated St. Mary's 57-9 last week. With the win the Wolves extended their winning streak to four games. The loss snapped the Bears' 3-game winning streak.
Chandler (4-0) will play a non-conference game against Mountain Pointe next week, while Basha (3-1) will take on Highland in a I Section II game.
