The Lincoln Prep Lightning will head out on the road to face off against the Globe Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Lincoln Prep got their first taste of in-conference action on Friday and they started things off strong. Everything went their way against ALA - Anthem South as they made off with a 32-8 victory. Considering the Lightning's offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Lincoln Prep relied on the efforts of Joshua Morris, who rushed for 73 yards and one touchdown, and Connor Mewhinney, who picked up 79 receiving yards and one TD. An impressive showing, but Mewhinney really ramped things up playing D: he picked up three sacks and made seven total tackles.
Lincoln Prep's run defense was locked in: ALA - Anthem South could only muster 0.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Lincoln Carlson for the heroic effort on defense: he. Lincoln Prep didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.2.
Lincoln Prep's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. Mewhinney was especially locked on to ALA - Anthem South's QB and sacked him three times.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Globe over Catalina in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Tigers blew the Trojans out of the water with a 48-0 final score. The contest marked the Tigers' most dominant win of the season.
Globe's win came from a few key players Lincoln Prep will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jaeger Franco, who threw for 120 yards and three touchdowns. Those three passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Braden Wager also helped with two scores in total.
Globe didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Matt Hollis, Markitos Franco, and Jaeger picked up one apiece. Jaeger's passing game has become a key predictor of Globe's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-4 otherwise. Jaeger got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Lincoln Prep's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-6. As for Globe, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
