Carlsbad has gone 9-1 against El Camino recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Lancers will head out on the road to take on the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
On Thursday, Carlsbad narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past La Costa Canyon 5-4.
Sofia Tillis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Autumn Muro, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Carlsbad lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, El Camino got the win against Canyon Crest Academy on Thursday by a conclusive 9-3. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
El Camino also got a great performance from Kayla Layland as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Layland has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, El Camino let Bella Mendoza and Makayla Boone run wild. Mendoza went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Boone went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. Kailey Dain was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
El Camino's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-8. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Carlsbad, their record now sits at 6-13.
Everything went Carlsbad's way against El Camino when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Carlsbad made off with a 9-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
