The Evergreen Cougars scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Pomona 55-19 at home. Winning may never get old, but Evergreen sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Evergreen found their leader in underclassman Elle Buenning, who scored 11 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Buenning has scored all season. Tatum Buenning was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Pomona had strong showings from Kendra Ritzmann, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds, and Aaliyah Valenzuela, who scored three points along with eight rebounds and five blocks. That was a full 52.6% of Pomona's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Evergreen pushed their record up to 11-4 with that win, which was their third straight at home. As for Pomona, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Evergreen won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Huskies at 1:00 p.m. on January 27th. Battle Mountain comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Pomona, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Demons at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Golden is ranked 150th, while the Panthers are ranked 163rd).
