The Elmira Express lost against the Bishop Kearney Kings back in December of 2021, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Elmira fell 62-49 to Bishop Kearney. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Elmira came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while Bishop Kearney is ranked 230th).
Elmira's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ellie Clearwater, who scored 18 points. The contest was Clearwater's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlyn Wagner, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Elmira's defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 3-3. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Bishop Kearney, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Elmira and Troy will round out the year against one another at 3:15 p.m. on Friday at. Troy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 57 points per game. Bishop Kearney's road trip will continue as they head out to face Cardinal O'Hara at 6:45 p.m. on December 30, 2023. One thing working in Cardinal O'Hara's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five games.
