The Seymour Owls will take on the Floyd Central Highlanders at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Seymour sitting on four straight victories and Floyd Central on 14.
Seymour is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Everything went their way against New Albany as they made off with an 11-2 win.
Taylor Stuckwisch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Zoe Williams was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Phoebe Underwood was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Meanwhile, Floyd Central got the win against Bedford North Lawrence on Monday by a conclusive 16-2. Considering the Highlanders have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Adeline Shultz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double.
In other pitching news, Emmy Miller looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Floyd Central let Addy Ware and Elise Coleman run wild. Ware went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and three RBI, while Coleman went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs. Those five RBI gave Coleman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Breleigh Lockhart, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Floyd Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Seymour's record now sits at 17-8. As for Floyd Central, their record is now 24-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Seymour hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Floyd Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Seymour suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Floyd Central when the teams last played back in April. Can the Owls avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
